Things to Know When Using Milo Chat

At Mathspace, our mission is to be the right help at the right time for every student.

Milo Chat is our latest offering to advance that mission. It uses Generative AI technology to help answer specific questions that students have when practicing in Mathspace, providing just-in-time, custom support to every individual.

Here are some important things to know to make the most of Milo Chat.

Availability and Reliability

  • Milo Chat is available on most problems from Grade 3 to Grade 10 in Australia and Grade 3 through Algebra 2 in the United States.

  • Generative AI is still developing the ability to support some Mathspace problems that include images, tables, graphs and other interactive inputs. Where we have identified AI is not reliable for providing students with accurate help, Milo Chat will be unavailable. In such cases, you can still ask Milo for hints and video help but just won’t be able to chat.

  • Despite our continued efforts to make Milo Chat as helpful and as accurate as possible, sometimes it may get things wrong or introduce biased responses. This is a limitation of Generative AI so always check with your teacher if you need more help.

Teacher Visibility and Control

  • Your teachers can see all your chats with Milo so don’t share anything you wouldn’t want your teacher to see.

  • Your teacher may choose to turn off Milo Chat when assigning tasks to you in Mathspace.

Appropriate Use

  • Milo Chat is here to help you learn by asking questions and guiding you step by step. We have made sure Milo won't just give you the answers.

  • If you use Milo Chat inappropriately, our support team is alerted. If it happens frequently or is very serious, you may lose access to Milo Chat, and your teacher (or parent for home users) will be notified.

Privacy and Data Usage

  • We use OpenAI's API to power Milo Chat. As outlined in the OpenAI Enterprise Privacy documentation, inputs and outputs from the API are not used for training their models.

  • Anything you input to Milo Chat is subject to OpenAI’s usage policy.

  • While OpenAi’s privacy policy provides protections, we recommend never sharing personal data with Milo Chat.

By using Milo Chat, you agree to these guidelines and understand how to use Milo responsibly. Happy learning!
