Why and how is Mathspace useful?

Mathspace is the most useful online Maths platform that I have ever used. It incorporates the Australian Curriculum into useful, engaging and powerful lessons and activities for students. The commitment and communication of the Mathspace staff ensures that the program is able to be delivered effectively and staff are well trained for their lessons as well as students can troubleshoot any issues in a timely manner.

In what ways is it different to other Maths programs?

The feedback and chat options on Mathspace separate this program from others I have used. The ability to scaffold classes and lessons is also an invaluable tool. The links to the curriculum are direct and clear.

How often do you use it in the classroom?

I use Mathspace every Maths lesson in one way or another. Sometimes I teach from the lesson, sometimes we do a quiz or test, occasionally students are allocated another task or investigation or do self directed learning where Mathspace suggests activities for them to complete.

What do kids like about using Mathspace?

They enjoy the interactivity and feedback. They know that if they are at home on Mathspace and they are stuck that there are so many different options for them to become, ‘unstuck’ and be able to keep going. They also appreciate the video demonstrations and explanations within the lessons. It’s good to have something explained from someone other than their regular teacher all the time.

Why and how is Mathspace useful?

The program offers classroom teachers a change to differentiate the curriculum and track progress in a simple and time effective way. By having all students working on the app at the same time students are more aware of their own learning rather than the progress of others around them.

In what ways is it different to other Maths programs?

The ability to differentiate and adapt within the app means that the program challenges or supports the students where required rather than them completing material that is much too easy or much too hard. The real time analytics offered to teachers is also fantastic in identifying which students require your immediate assistance.

How often do you use it in the classroom?

I use the program frequently and have become a much greater user of the supporting materials available through the site. Next year I hope to make better use of the investigations!

What do kids like about using Mathspace?

It’s very rigorous which the capable kids really appreciate and the hints and support materials allow the struggling students to have a go and make progress before seeking outside assistance. The fact that they can work things out on their iPads is a real plus as well!

Why and how is Mathspace useful?

When I was introduced to Mathspace, I was impressed with the range of topics that it covered, the depth to which each topic was investigated depending on the students’ abilities and the ease that it could be managed. It’s very simple to plan and organize activities and I like the resources that it provides to help teach the lessons.

In what ways is it different to other Maths programs?

The best thing about the students using Mathspace is that it caters to each student’s level of ability in real time – the adaptive function of the program is a winner for me. It shows me when and where students are having difficulty so that I can follow up. The availability of hints and help that the students can request is great. The data and feedback that the teacher can receive from the results is useful for me to monitor their mastery.

How often do you use it in the classroom?

I use the program almost every day to reinforce and practice the skills that I have discussed and taught in class. I set several activities for the students to complete by the end of the week. I use it as a part of their homework every night.

What do kids like about using Mathspace?

They like the independence to select various topics. They can see their progress to reach the set target as they complete questions and they certainly like comparing the points they get with each other. The program is very easy to use – we use iPads and everything works very well using the Mathspace app.
